This week has been pretty busy and the coming weeks aren't going to slow down any, which is nice.
Monday night Jen, Matt, Kacie & I went to Regent's Park after dinner and drank wine and threw around a frisbee. Everyone is trying to take advantage of the nice weather while it's here. We stayed a little too long, however, and had to climb the gate to get out. Which was really fun because there are spikes on the top. Jen ripped her jacket a little, but other than that we departed injury-free. The parks are so nice in pleasant weather. Lots of trees and green spaces, the flower gardens are kept up daily and it's never too crowded.
On Wednesday night a group of us went to the Absolut Ice Bar. Essentially, it's this room that has a smaller room of ice walls, tables, everything. The bar is made of ice and the glass that they serve you the drink in is ice. The room is kept at negative 5 degrees celsius, so you are given this silvery "designer" (what designer, I have no idea) poncho type thing with attached gloves. Once you pay the cover (£12 during the week), you get one drink and can stay in the room for 40 minutes. So basically you hurry in the room, talk about how cold it is, order your drink from a bartender wearing a fur hat, and take a whole bunch of pictures before they turn off the music and kick everyone out so that the next group can enter. That being said, it was a lot of fun. If only I hadn't worn open-toed shoes, it would have been perfect. I'll post photos later...
Last night Kacie, her friend from high school & I went to see "Harry Potter". They went to see the movie and I went along because I've been craving popcorn for weeks and we don't have a microwave. But the movie was pretty good. The plot was a little weak and more things could have been thrown in, but overall it was well done. Not my favorite of the series, though. It was pretty cool that there were a number of shots of them flying (on broomsticks, of course) over the Thames and through London. Side note: there was a group of maybe 12 women, all in their 20s, sitting in front of us. Apparently they ordered their tickets online (where you can choose your seats) but one of the tickets ended up some rows above the rest. The last girl who arrived (and was stuck with that ticket) first yelled at her friends because she had to sit away from them. The next thing we see is her bawling to the theatre manager with two of her friends. They were practically standing right next to us, so of course we listened in on the whole thing.
Theatre manager: "What's the problem?"
Crying Girl: "The problem is that I'm sitting way up there away from my friends"
Theatre manager: "But what's the problem? Why are you crying?"
Crying Girl: "Because I can't sit with my friends."
At this point I wanted to kindly remind the girl that she is no longer in 4th grade. But I thought that might be inappropriate....
Tonight I am giong to see James Morrison perform at the Tower of London. I found it only appropriate that the concert falls on Friday the 13th and it's at one of the creepiest places in the world.
Tomorrow morning Kacie, Zach & I are going to Liverpool for the night. Basically we just wanted to get out of the city. Not that I think there is so much to see IN Liverpool, but the hotel has a pool... so there's that.
I ordered a ticket yesturday to go see Orlando Bloom onstage in the play "In Celebration". Matt arrives on the 25th, so I'm going to try to track down tickets for "Avenue Q" and "Boeing Boeing". And I'm going to see "Spamalot" (for the 3rd time, though not in London) a week from Monday. Basically just trying to cram as much theatre as I can into the next 3 weeks.
I spent £10 (20 dollars) on a salad and no-added-sugar smoothie for lunch, at a place called "Pure California" nevertheless. Just trying to recover from the large amounts of popcorn and candy consumed at the theatre last night.
I've uploaded some pictures of the crazy weather we've had here this month. I'll be sure to post photos of the ice bar, Liverpool, etc. early next week.
