Wow it just took me 20 minutes to log in here.
Everytime I sit down to update the blog, I get distracted by the neighboor's techno music.
Anyways things are going well. Yesturday I met the girl that I'm going to be interning with, Alice. We walked to the Shorts Int'l office to make sure we knew where to go. It's right in Soho/Piccadilly and really easy to get to.
Orientation for the program was at 3. It was nice to sit down and see the other people in the program. We also got a booklet that included events and tickets that we have access to, like a guided trip to Stonehenge & Bath and a ticket to go see Spamalot on the West End.
A large group of us went to a pub for drinks and then to an Italian place for dinner. It's a really good group and I think everyone gets along really well. There were only about 9 of us who went last night and another 5 or so in addition.
This morning was my first day at Shorts International. I love it already. There is a staff of 12 and they seem to be growing. The parent company is Shorts International that acquires films from production houses, film schools, independent directors, festivals, etc. and then distributes them on iTunes, HBO, and their new cable channel, Shorts TV France. It's amazing how much a small staff accomplishes.
I brought entirely too many corporate clothes considering just about everyone there wears jeans. Must buy flats asap. But they are really flexible and easy to get along with. I worked on one project today that involved getting updated addresses from licensers and then I went through all of their friend requests and messages for the Shorts Int'l Myspace page... All of you who know me know how I love stuff like that. Organizing, updating, deleting.... it was fantastic. I have a whole list of things that I'm going to be working on this summer that includes "screening submissions and giving feedback- highlight films to priortise or definite rejections" (am I qualified for that????) and "Attend film screenings". It's such a great environment.... I'm really looking forward to spending the summer there.
I'm getting accustomed to my room.... I'll post pictures asap. I really haven't taken many pictures since arriving. Very unlike me....
I couldn't figure out why I kept running into people. I thought it was because there are so many people around, but I think it's because I'm used to staying to the right and they stay to the left. It didn't even occur to me before (I blame it on sleep deprivation).
And I've got to figure out the best way to carry more than 2 bags of groceries home at a time. Super inconvenient.
Emilee & Stephan arrive from Munich tomorrow! It's going to be a great weekend with them. I wish Joshua was going to make it... but perhaps shortly thereafter.
