I'm now positive that London has the most fickle weather of anywhere I've been.
I learned this by wearing flip flops and sunglasses out, only having to put the glasses away 3 times (in 2 hours) in exchange for an umbrella. More on that later.
I spent Friday night in doing laundry and grocery shopping. Luckily, my clothes survived the only-one-setting-of-hard-wash commercial washers, but I completely wasted 4 pounds on the dryers. I'm pretty sure my clothes were more wet when I pulled them out than when I put them in. So my room was completely covered in shirts and jeans until Saturday afternoon when most of them were dry.
Yesturday morning, Emilee, Stephan & I went to Portabello Road Market. If you've ever watched the movie "Notting Hill", you might remember the market featured in that movie. Same one. It was really nice when we got there, but proceeded to completely downpour a number of times. I picked up some bread, cheese & fruit, but we spent a large portion of our time at a cafe eating and waiting for the sun to come up. Of course, it did while we were in the middle of eating. Only to rain harder than before the minute we walked out.
We went to the British Museum in the afternoon, which is basically a history museum. Lots of artifacts from different times and parts of the world. The Rosetta Stone is there (the stone that helped scientists decifer hieroglyphics. The famous reading room is also there, but it was closed for some kind of renovation. We only spent a little over an hour and a half there. It just becomes overwhelming. Too much information.
Last night we met up at an Italian restaurant in South Kensington with one of Stephan's friends from school.... and 18 other German people. Everyone.Spoke.German.Except.Me. There's nothing worse than not being able to evesdrop on people's conversations for the sole reason that you can't understand any word that comes out of their mouth except for "nine" (which I'm pretty sure means no). We didn't even get out of the restaurant until a little before 1. By that time all of the clubs were full, so we called it a night.
Emilee leaves this evening, so we're going to try to fit in a little shopping or something this afternoone. Really need shoes.
I did get my pillow and mattress pad and towels, though. Now I'm just afraid that the cleaners are going to steal them.
