In London, finally!
The plane ride went well... despite the length. And the food. We were delayed about an hour, so by the time that I (barely) made it through boarder control, it was another hour before I got to the hotel. The phone I purchased on ebay apparently doesn't meet the requirements for service, so I took a bus to Oxford Street and bought a new one. The hustle of the streets really threw me for a minute, but I feel fairly at home here. I know the layout of the city and how things work now. For example, when you go into a pub, you have to go to the counter to order food instead of waiting for them at your table.
Last night I went out with a few guys who I met on the plane from Chicago. Ironically enough, they are staying only a few blocks away for three weeks. So it was a long night to say the least.
I couldn't check into the flat until 2 today, so I spent about an hour wandering the area. I didn't spent much time in this part of London last time, so some of the sights are new to me. The British Museum is nearby in addition to the British Library and Regents Park.
I ate my first, and hopefully last, plate of fish and chips at a pub for lunch. There's something about uncooked peas (better than "mushy", I suppose) that just turns me off from the idea in general. At least it was something green.....
My flatmates are all really nice and are all interning in London. My room is sufficient. It's larger than I expected and I have a wireless signal, which is a nice surprise. There is a kitchen and two bathrooms for the 5 of us to share, but no living room, which we've found in inconvenient. We might have to makeshift a common space in the hallway.
Tomorrow I have orientation at 3, and then I start work on Tuesday. I'm going to meet the girl I'm interning with, Alice, for lunch and to check out where the office is.
Right now I'm just trying to figure out how to take the most advantage of my time here and this experience.
