After about 3 hours of sleep we were woken up by the planes intercom as the plane was approaching landing. It was just before 5am in Santiago but based on Rapanui local time it was just before 3am so a very early start. Baggage claim took almost an hour and by 6:30am I was on a bus headed for city Centro. As I was so tired the whole journey seemed to take forever; after the bus I had to catch two trains on the Metro, then wait 30 minutes for a bus, I then missed my stop and had to walk an additional 20 minutes: but in the end I arrived by 8:30am. As I had the keys I let myself in and went straight to my room to try and get some sleep. At midday I awoke and chatted with Kelly and Vira for a short while before they headed out for the day. I did some yoga, made lunch and then went for a walk to the markets to buy some groceries. Later in the afternoon Cira and I went in her car out to a huge sports mall that basically specialized in all things sport; it was maybe the best mall I have ever been with a ginormous indoor climbing wall, skateparks, courts and every kind of shop from surf shots, motocross and hiking gear. We spent a few hours wondering around and Vira brought a bunch of hiking equipment in preparation for there upcoming trip to Patagonia. After looking at all the equipment and seeing all the prices I have decided not to buy my own hiking equipment now but instead rent when I get down to Patagonia - makes more sense as I will only be using stuff for few days and it is highly specialized equipment. In the evening I made dinner for Vira and Kelly; a new creation of mine: Vegetarian Lasagne with no pasta. I basically cooked soya mice with some peas, corn, carrot and onion and then layered a baking tray with the soy mix and then a tomato salsa I had made followed by layers of fried zuchini pouring a few eggs over the whole thing to help bind it all together - baked for 30 minutes. It turned out very well and the girls were impressed, we opened a nice bottle of red wine and spent the evening chatting and discussing each others plans for Patagonia. Finally I had some fast Internet so I did some research and planning before calling it a night.
