After about two hours sleep I was up and raring to go; doing my exercises, having a big breakfast and planning my day. Kelly and Vira left by 7am and I waited around for Yergos to awake so I could get some directions from him. I then took the bus into downtown and wondered round very confused and trying to figure out a plan for the day. I decided to to try make the free walking tour that was at 2pm today so whilst waiting I ran around to all the banks trying to draw money out. Unfortunately all the banks wanted to charge a $10 fee to draw money out as I was using an international card so I decided to head to plaza de armas (the main square) and eat my lunch. The main square here in Santiago is very beautiful with water features, lots of space, benches and lots of vendors selling ice creams, paintings and what not. At 2pm I went and met the group doing the free walking tour, there was only 6 of us so we could get a very personalized tour. We walked around the main area of the city getting an explanation of Chiles history - all completely new to me and very interesting, we learned about typical foods, culture and how the city came about. Our guide Pablo was a history major and you could tell he loved what he does and was very energetic. I was starting to worry about not being able to draw money out so at our half-time break I decided to go off in search of more banks in the hope I may get away with not being charged the ridiculous ATM fee. After 3 hours and on the verge of giving up I came across an Internacional bank and was able to draw money without the fee - thank God. I then made my way back to Kelly's via the Metro and I must say I am starting to get the hang of it, also making a detour to the giant supermarket just down the road to look at what food I might take to Easter Island. In the evening two more Couchsurfers arrived at Kelly's place and we all had a really nice dinner that Yergos had prepared called Giza - a Greek and Chilean vegetarian dish. The dinner was tasty but not very filling as it was just beans and zuchini and a little onion but not to worry there was another bottle of red to add on the calories. The two new Couchsurfers were students one from Brazil and one from Mexico and unfortunately they didn't speak any English so most of the conversation was in Spanish so I had to sit completely at a loss as to what was being said. Kelly decided to take the girls out to her apartment in the mountains as the house was already full so after saying goodbye i tried to go to sleep.
