I still can't sleep here in Santiago - even with a really nice bed and complete silence at night I wake up on and off all night. As I couldn't sleep I got up at around 5am and spent the morning packing and surfing the Internet. After lunch I made my way to the city to check out the street market and hopefully climb the famous Sant Cristobal hill. On arriving in the city I was met by absolute chaos, people here have become accustomed to how crowded it is and push and barge there way passed you at all times, but for a foreigner it is quite difficult. I made my way to the bank to get some money out and then headed for the street markets. The street markets were incredible to say the least - prices were less then half of what I was paying in supermarket and they had every kind of food you could imagine. I stopped off at Mercado Central - the famous fish market in the centre of Santiago known for its delicious and fresh seafood - voted 1 of the 10 best food markets in the world. As I walked further on I found more and more markets; buying some things for Rapanui like oats, Raisens and honey. I spent hours wondering around markets trying various dried fruits, nuts and other foods - the selection of fruit here is incredible but I don't think carrying it over to Rapanui is the best idea. After the market I headed towards San Cristobal hill - a famous hill that is known to have the best panoramic views of the city, unfortunately on arrival I found the entrance was closed. It was late anyway so I decided to take the Metro back to Kelly and Viras - the metro at 7pm is horrendous with delays and overcrowding. I eventually made it back but Kelly had left a note saying she didn't feel well and had gone to bed. We were supposed to have cooked dinner together and she had kindly brought some steak that she wanted me to cook. It's been a while since I have eaten steak and to be honest it wasn't that great - I don't think I am a fan of red meat anymore unless its mince or sausage. One more day in Santiago and then my adventure on Easter Island begins - can't wait.
