After some sleep but a lot of aches and pains the bus attendant came around at 7am opening our blinds and giving us more snack packs. I was lucky this morning and was given two snack packs which consisted of water and a very tasty caramel biscuit. A few more movies were put on but unfortunately all had no sound and were only with Spanish subtitles - although I watched them I am sure I lost a lot in bad translation. We had been promised 5?snacks during the 23 hour bus ride but unfortunately we were given only two and so luckily I had boiled a few eggs for today's lunch. The bus arrived into Santiago at 2pm driving past a very cool motocross track that reminded me of days passed. The weather is really warm - something I wasn't expecting. I asked a security lady for directions to the subway and then made my long journey towards Egana Station where I was to meet Kelly. After a little confusion due to construction work I met Kelly and she took me back to her lovely home. I met her partner Vira and the good thing is they both speak a little English - they were just about to eat lunch and invited me to join them. For lunch we had an amazing Vegetarian feast with whole artichokes - dipped in oil and fresh lime (first time for me), haba bean and onion salad, fresh cherries, strawberries and a delicious red wine. After lunch and a nice chat I decided to go for a walk to the supermarket and get my bearings of the area - I was a little tipsy from the wine and lack of sleep but it certainly made the walk more enjoyable. Just as I expected the supermarkets here are very expensive - much like home and basic groceries even cost a small fortune. After picking up a few things for myself and Kelly I headed back and thanks to my trusty GPS on my iPhone had no trouble finding the house. There is another Couchsurfer staying at the house from Greece and his name is Yergos and as he and his girlfriend have been travelling 10 months in South America he was an absolute bundle of info. I sat talking about hiking Chile and Patagonia and other nearby countries whilst Kelly and Vira made us dinner. For dinner we had the delicious artichokes again and a really tasty salad and boiled potatoes. More red wine was brought out and we had a wonderful evening exchanging stories and enjoying one another's company. I had a lot to do on the Internet so I sat up most of the night uploading photos and catching up on emails. I feel like I have so much to do here in Santiago that my mind is racing out of control and by 2am I still couldn't close my eyes - a now normal feeling for me in big cities.
