Once again a sleepless night with a lot on my mind but to be honest I am sure a lot of it is excitement as well as nerves. First thing I did today was test pack my new pack and it looks like I could probably of even got a bigger pack as not everything fits in so well. Next I did some research on food for 10 days of hiking and it looks like I am seriously under-estimating how much food I have packed and neglecting my main fuel sources. So it was back to the supermarket to buy some things I never thought I would ever eat again; candy, corn chips, powder milk (lactose free), instant potato purée and a big jar of peanut butter. It was then back to the house to finalize my food and sort everything out into little sandwich bags. I have packed food for 11 days remembering I will be hiking 20-25km per day and in need of an additional 2000cals (double my usual intake) and the fact that all food must be free of water weight to maximize weight/fuel ratio. And here's the list: 1kg of tuna (200g sachets), 2 x 200g sticks of salami, 20 instant soups, 1.5 kg of homemade granola (oats, nuts, berries, coconut, cereal biscuits, corn flakes, chocolate pieces, honey chunks), 1.5kg homemade fruit and nut mix (cheese Flavoured peanuts, walnuts, cashews, Raisens, saltanas and candy), 22 muesli bars, 500g peanut butter, assorted biscuits, 150g potato pure, 75g carrot purée, 75g pea purée, 150g corn chips, 3x instant noodles, 70g dried mushrooms, 150g hot chocolate, 30 odd tea bags, sugar tablets, 10 powder juice sachets and herbs/spices. Yes a whole heap of food and still probably not enough but can buy expensive food along the way if need be. I managed to test my tent in the living room - looks really nice and pack my backpack with almost everything I wanted except my parka vest I just brought. It was then around 5pm so time to go break my boots in a bit more. I went for a walk figuring out where I would try and hitchhike from tomorrow and then returned to the house. Alex the Russian Couchsurfer had just returned from 4 days in Ushuaia (most southern city of the world: Argentina) and explained how awesome it was and recommended I visit; which I will probably do now. The guys had to go out tonight so I took the time to pack and re-pack my bag a few times aswell as doing some more research.
