We were told to get up for 5:30 this morning so we could do a boat ride along the Ganges and watch the sun rise. This all sounded very romantic until we got down there and realised there was a thick fog that you couldn't see more than a few metres into. After the rather disappointing boat trip we were moved to another hotel because the one we were in had a big wedding party and couldn't fit us all in. The rest of the day we had to ourselves so we decided to go back down to the Ganges and see if the fog had cleared. It had so we grabbed the first boatman we saw and headed out for a clearer view of Varanasi by boat. The one thing that really caught our attention were the burning Ghats where people bring family members to be cremated on the banks of the Ganges. It's quite disturbing seeing the bodies tossed on top of large fires but also quite intriguing.
In the evening we went back to see the whole ceremony on the Ganges (apparently it's on every night) before getting an early night in preparation for our flight to Goa tomorrow...
