Jodhpur is renowned for its building's beautiful blue colour all of which is best seen from the top of the Fort. It is also named after the trousers popular with show jumpers according to Heather (she may have misread the guide book). We started our afternoon with a tour of the Fort which had been designed with steep narrow winding roads leading through the entrance gates to prevent attacks on elephant back. This makes it a bloody nightmare for tourists clambering up too. Once atop the fort walls though looking down Jodhpur it all became worthwhile. The blue colour is so vibrant and you can see far off into the horizon. After making our way back down we visited a royal crematorium which had been built in homage to a Maharaja (king). Its a very serene location and the white marble in late afternnon feels warm under foot.
I haven't talked much about food in this blog and I feel this is the perfect time to start. Up till now the food has been excellent with so many flavours that we've never tasted before, however tonights meal topped them all. We sat at a floor table in a rooftop restaurant with a picturesque view of the fort walls illuminated in the dark. Sat cross legged we sampled a selection of mouth watering dishes. First was Kashmiri Dum Aloo with consisted of potato and cheese in a spicy tomato sauce. We also had Kaju Curry which is another vegetarian dish with cashews and sultanas. Obviously all washed down with a refreshing Kingfisher. Lovely....
