Today our driver (whose name I haven't mentioned yet as I can't remember) drove us from Mandawa to Bikaner. Along the way we stopped at a few very extravagant temples. One had a giant statue of the monkey good Hanuman and another was a giant theme-parkesque, imitation mountain with various gods dotted in and around it. All in all they were quite over the top but we still paid our respects and took a blessing at each one.
When we arrived in Bikaner we drove up the Junargarh Fort which also houses the palaces of the former Maharaja (King). The entire palace and its surroundings are beautiful with highly ornate courtyards and lavishly gold painted rooms. The number of tourist was insane here and having been directed to a tour being held in French we managed to get our own personal guide. Even though he took us round at lightning speed he did get us away from the throngs of sandal and sock wearing tourists (we know you understand this).
After the madness of the fort we had a look round the camel research centre where they teach locals how to look after their camels. This was our first sighting of camels and gave us just enough respite to prepare us for the Karri Mata Temple where locals worship thousands of mice. This was quite an experience and even more so as we spotted a white mouse which is regarded as a bringer of great luck.
