Before we arrived into Jaipur town we stopped at the temple complex of Galta which is also knnown as the monkey temple. We were greated by the monkey master (I know what a cool title) who told us that for 20 rupees we could buy peanuts and feed the monkeys which as with most things in India will bring you good luck. We decided against it as in the guide book it says you can get mobbed by up to 50 aggressive monkeys. We didn't stay long as there were only 2 monkeys (we could probably have handled feeding 2 monkeys in hind sight) and also many pilgrims were bathing in the bathing tanks who made us feel quite unwelcome.
Leaving the monkeyless temple we drove to a gem factory and a textile factory where we were shown shape semi precious stones for jewellery and print images onto textiles respectively. Obviously after both demos came the hard sell which we declined but had a lovely cup of chai each.
That evening we arrived back at the hotel to find an Indian wedding taking place in the courtyard. It was fascinating to watch from the balcony as hundreds of guests were fed curry whilst seated on the floor. We sat and played scrabble but the interest of the children from the wedding got too much so we retired to our room and tried to get some rest with the noise still carrying on outside...
