Jennifer's Trip
Hello!
Well it has been a reasonably quiet week, not much news really. It is still hot, the food is still spicy. Just about 3 weeks until I get home now, and I can't wait for normal weather and food. And not having to carry around the foloowing items at all times - toilet roll, antibacterial hand gel, insect repellent, bite cream. Believe me, withou t these things I am totally lost!
Went to Busua Beach at the weekend, which involved another joyful trip on a tro tro, it took about 5 hours, and once we got there it rained!!!!!!! Can you believe it, I go to the beach for the weekend and the first thing it does is rain! We stayed in a little beach hut type thing right on the beach. The resort was called Alaska Beach Club. It was nice enough, but the only problem that there was no bathroom, that's right, once again, I had to use communal showers and toilets. They were clean anough though, and at no point did I find any little 'presents' waiting for me (if you know what I mean).
Within 5 minutes of getting there, Paul the Juice Man (that's actually his name) attacked us and asked if we wanted any fresh juice. We bought a bottle of fresh mango and pineapple juice. It was very good, and possibly the healthiest thing I have had here.
Got up nice and early on Saturday morning for a day of sunbathing. And would you believe it? Somehow I managed to forget my bikini. So I had to wear shorts and a t shirt to sunbathe. Oh well. It was a nice relaxing day!
In the evening we decided to go to Daniel the Pancake Man's for tea. To get there we had to walk across a dirty grassy are and then along a wall. The 'restaurant' itself was interesting. The tables and chairs were plastic and we were the only customers. When we ordered drinks someone had to go out and buy them. All the food was made from scratch so we had to wait a while, but at least we knew it was fresh! When we finsihed we ordered our breakfast for the morning, chocolate and banan pancakes and coffee, all for the equivalent of about a pound.
When we got back to the guest house someone was starting a bonfire so we settled down to watch it (with a bottle of wine, that we brought with us). We even stayed up to the crazy time of 11.30!
The next morning we got up early to have our pancakes and then head back to Kumasi by tro tro. How I'll miss the tro tros..............
Yesterday was independence day so there was no school. I just sat about and watched tv and read my book. There were big prades in Accra to comemorate 49years of independence from the British. Then I was given mashed plantain for lunch, definatley not my favourite meal here at all. I also discovered last night that my stomach doesn't like it very much!
After hardly sleeping last night due to the 'rejection of plantain' as I will put it, I didn't go to school today. So I have spent almost the whole day in my room, doing not very much. I was getting 'cabin fever' so I decided to come to the interent. And that's it. You are all completeley up to date with my life!
See you all soon!!
