Jennifer's Trip
Hello there!
Cheers for the Neighbours update, I am missing it you know. There are only really badly dubbed american soaps over here, and bizzare Ghanaian soaps which have to be seen to be believed!
Spent yesterday exploring Adum (the city cenret) and it was totally mad, completely chaotic, but organised chaos apparently! It is totally impossible to walk through the street without loads of people screaming Obruni, Obruni! and little children come up and say 'hello, how are you?' So far I have had three marriage proposals, although I have taken to saying that I have a boyfriend called Angus who doesn't like me speaking to other guys (if you say you have a boyfriend that doesn't really deter them!).
The market was totally mad, I didn't really know what was going on, but luckily one f the techers was there too, so we didn't get hopelessly lost. There was everything you could imagine for sale, and the smell was awful. In some parts there were open sewers just a few metres away from raw meat and fish.
Lat night Rita (a teacher) took us to Spice, a bar/restaurant type place. I had a beer (no vodka!) and some rose wine (yay!!!!!!!). I was quite good to go out, although I was home by 11.30. The music was very loud drum based music and most of it was in Twi, the local language. I am trying to learn Twi, so when I get home, you can all learn it too!
This will be my first full week of teaching, although everything is very relaxed. School starts around 8.30ish, lunch is about 12.30 then class doesn't start until about 2.15. School closes at three! It is quite strange though, some of the children don't get picked up until 6/7 in the evening. It is all much more laid back than the UK!
Hope you are all well and keeping out of mischief! Keep me up to date on all the gossip and news!
