Jennifer's Trip
Hello!
None of the pictures I am using here are my own, they are all raken from the STA website, but I did see elephants last weekend (as per my previous entry, this entry will not be filled with quite so many tales of woe!)
Thought I would tell you all abit more abut Kumasi where I am staying.
It is completely, utterly chaotic as I have no doubt said before. It is completely normal to have men grab you in the street and want to talk to you/propose simply because you're white. I have taken to 'power walking' down the street just to get rid of them. It is also extremely annoying, as everyone who is white is perceived to be rich, so the consequence is that you end up getting ripped off most of the time. Since you have to agree a pice for a taxi nefore you get in the car, most drivers start with more than double what the fare should. You can nearly always get them to lower the price, but if your skin is white it is never as low as it should be. (For around a ten minte journey I have been paying around 1pound, although it should be around 60p)
The school where I am staying is really small, I have only kids in my class, it is a private school. There are loads of them in Ghana, and anyone can start a school with permission from the government. I like it though.
Nearly evey weekend I have gone away somewhere. My hosts, edward and augustina and the headteacher are very eager for us to go travelling while we're here. So, this weekend I am going to Cape Coast where there are slavery related things to goand see.
Bye for now! Jen x
