Jennifer's Trip
Hello!
Well, have had a good couple of ays, the only problem being that the temp seems to be going up and up. Because it's so hot, it has rained quite a lot too. When I say rain, I mean it sounds and looks like someone is emptying a huge bucket over everywhere. I am not sure quite how much sense that makes....
School is going well, I have today I had to tell them about George Washington, and with my somewhat limited experience with American History it proved to be challenging. But, at the end of the day they are only five, and prefer to colour in pictures than do anything else. They have also started to really enjoy playing'Hangman', so it is a good way to get them to read, without them actually realising that they are working! Tomorrow I am going to get them to draw pictures and I am going to send them to my Rainbows in Aberdeen. Yesterday, i got them to draw snowmen but some of them started to colour them purple, red, yellow.....they had no idea that they should just be left white!
Stayed around Kumasi at the weekend. On sat we went to a few 'craft villages' where we saw wood carvingsand brass statues. Also went to see where Kente cloth is made, (the really bright woven cloth that alot of traditional clothes are made from). That was in the morning, and in the afternoon we went to Bobiri Forest Reserve just outside Kumasi. We went on a walk through the forest and saw lots of hugem, very old trees, there was also loads of butterflies. Our guide told us about all the different types of trees there were i the forrest and their various uses. He made us taste bark from a Mahogany tree, its uses include to soothe stomach pain and for 'Man Power' (we were told to go back when we are all married!!!!!!!). The whole day was really good, but since we hadn't really planned to go to Bobiri, we weren't exactly dressed for the occasion, sandals, skirts and strappy tops don't make climbing over trees and bushes very easy!
We stayed in the hotel at Bebu on sat, where Michelle is staying. It is a huge empty hotel where people very rarely stay. All of the other rooms were empty, and they are all strangely about three times the size of rooms in a Travel Inn (only cost one pound)! We had a mini party and stayed up to the crazy time of 2am. Almost every night I am in bed by 9.30 and asleep at 10!
Everywhere I go hear 'obruni, obruni (white person)' and I end up waving the entire time I am walking down the street. It is all very strange. I also here 'how are you?' constantly, and they get very confused if the answer is not 'I am fine', if I say 'I am good' or I'm alright, I don't think they know what I am saying.
Right, well bye for now. Hope everything is good in Scotland, and I will udate again soon!
