It was worth the efforts to get to Wellington. I cycled 90 kms to Masterton to catch a train to Wellington which got me in town before dark and ready for the midday rugby game the following day!
Wellington officially marked the end of my North Island cycling!!!!!! Yay- that feels good.
Some approximate stats are as follows:
-650 kms cycled
-420 kms driven by people offering me rides
-2 train rides
-15 barmps (translation for non-newfies: car horn honks)
-13 nights in hostels/ tenting
-15 nights in kiwi homes (2 of which were warmshower.org hosts)
-So many waves I stopped counting
I also had one guy from Wanaka attempt to flirt with me by talking about fax machines. I can't even type that without laughing.
I wish i kept track of how many people just stopped to talk to me because I'm a solo female cyclist. I got "you mean business!" quite a number of times. Lol.
I didn't get to see too much of Wellington for all the rain but I did get to meet a fab new friend, Adrienne, and cheer on Canada as they got obliterated by the All Blacks. I mean, it's not like we're playing hockey here.
Adrienne is totally awesome... fellow Canadian! My friend Lisa from Dal connected us and Adrienne is just super fun, cool and generous. She let me stay for four full nights no problemo. She also invited me with her and her friends so it made for an eventful and awesome time.
The ferry to Picton - less fun.
I caught the only ferry that wasn't cancelled that day due to bad weather. You know what that means? Choppy water and lots of people barfing. Luckily I wasn't one of them but both people on either side used their fancy white paper bags. Supposedly it's a really pretty crossing when your view isnt gloomy grey and the air has a slightly fresher aroma.

Zoe I was camping solo in Algonquin last weekend and all these peeps were saying, "Wow! Solo!" and I was like, "Oh ya, well you should see my friend Jes, who..." etc etc etc.
