I kinda hate cyclists.
No no no... Maybe I don't mean that? That would be like saying that I hate myself.
Let me try again... Perhaps I can better explain myself with a short story.
I haven't met very many cyclists on the road. When I was cycling from Nelson to Abel Tasman National Park I stopped to remove a layer of clothes and eat a gummy worm (one of my favorite cycling indulgences). While rustling through my pannier a solo, fully loaded, cycle tourist PASSED RIGHT BY ME WITHOUT STOPPING TO TALK. Seriously? Thats like running into your neighbor in a foreign country where nobody speaks your language and not bothering to say hello.
Just the day before two German cyclists did the same.
Snobs.
It's a good thing I've met some enjoyable cyclists through the warmshowers network or I think I'd have to change my hobby in fear of being associated with the likes of those stuck-up cyclists.
Other than that I had a good ride to the park - kind of. It was a long day and I got trapped in a down pour during the last 10 hilly kms but it was still good overall.
At this point I'm a little annoyed with cycling in the rain as I've had maybe just 4 days without it. However I knew the next day called for gorgeous sunshine so that meant a day of rejuvenation - hiking and laying on the beach. The nice weather pulled through and I'm happy it did because Abel Tasman is gorgeous and I had a great nap on the warm white sands.
I also met a fab new friend, Suzann!
