Wow.
Lamb and mint sauce; Im pretty sure eating this meal in New Zealand, cooked by kiwi farmers from a lamb that was raised by those very farmers on their land is the equivalent to being screeched-in in Newfoundland. That's right, I think I'm an honorary kiwi. And I'm quite proud of it.
Before eating that meal I spent the day on the cattle farm learning the ropes and rounding up cattle to move into a different paddock. Stunning; that farm was picturesque. I'd go as far to say one of the prettiest places I've seen thus far.
One of the newer and quite lucrative industries here is pine tree farms and harvesting - most if which is shipped to Japan. They also use the pine cones. Back home the only thing I've seen pine cones used for is making crafts. Do you have any other ideas for them? Kiwis do - firestarters!!! I think that's brilliant. There were pine cones all around my house growing up and we didn't use them to start the fire. Here they sell them for 5 dollars a bag! It's what I call my future side business for when I get back home.
Because I was set on getting to Wellington for the Canada vs All Blacks game I couldn't let my little visit to the hospital or farm delay my progress south. And sure enough, luck was on my side. With the offer to go to the farm came an offer to drive me to my next destination, keeping me on schedule. Judy drove me an hour and a half to Piatua with stops at galleries and even the local brewery!!! :)
Hospitality at it's finest.
