Today I was cycling to gorgeous Lake Taupo. I was about 15 kms away when - BAM - caught in a heavy downpour. Again? Ugh. "OK...", i guess i havent much say about the matter.
I reluctantly stopped to get out my rain gear (still in denial that it wasnt just a light shower) and as I was putting on my booties a farmer named Cliff stopped to see if I was alright. "Just putting on my raingear" I said. He looked out his windshield at the wipers on full speed and offered me a ride to Taupo. I gladly accepted.
My accepting that ride meant I would have to miss out on seeing the Dam release and the famous Huka Falls. But what i gained by doing so was my sanity. Fair trade I figured - I can't see it all. The rain never let up and I never did get to really experience or see much in the area. But maybe it was a blessing in disguise because I was so tired by the time I got situated at my hostel that I could barely keep my eyes opened. My body was telling me to rest. I haven't really done much of that since I set foot in New Zealand.
I slept like a baby, got up early and headed to Turangi.
