Sue and Brian are retired Dairy farmers. They love to cycle tour together. Bill is a bike nut and recently built a shed just to house all of their bikes and also have a space to repair them.
I got to learn some interesting history about the area while Brian fixed up my bike rack to fit my panniers perfectly. He also switched my brake cables because in New Zealand the front and back brake cables are switched- a potentially dangerous thing for me if I go to squeeze my back brake and end up flying over the front handle bars.
I asked about the dairy farm and they offered for me to go over (yay!). So, I happily put on the coveralls and started milking the cows. It was a very s***ty job - and i mean that literally, and not figuratively. I also got to feed the calves with Debbie. Who knew calves were so.. Ummmm... well... Ahhh... dumb. Its probably not their fault. We do take them away from their mothers starting day one so they have no one to show them the ropes - poor b*****s.
I got to spend the evening with them at a family dinner and Brian gave me some great advice for the rest of my trip.
