This is our fourth visit to Gdansk and each time the old town area simply blows us away. It is possibly sort of 'Disney-esque' in style like something at EPCOT but this is all as genuine as a post war re-construction can get. It is simply stunning and well worth a visit if you are looking for a good value break. We arrived at Gdansk Glowny (the main) railway station and once out of the maze of underground corridors it was around a fifteen minute walk to the centre of the 'old town' area. The walk itself has you passing stunning buildings and plenty of shopping so is a pleasant stroll (maybe unless you are pulling a wheelie case on the cobble stones!). Much of Gdansk was destroyed in WW2 and the reconstruction of the old town back to its former glory is a job well done. This included our hotel, the Holland Residence, which we got for just £36.00 a night and was renovated to a really high quality. It is interesting to see how things have changed since our first visit and the development of a new marina is certainly noticeable since our previous time here. Even though this was a flying visit of just eighteen hours from train arrival to aircraft departure it is safe to say that we will be back again and maybe next time in the summer. There is much to see and do in the area including the Baltic Coast resorts, plenty of museums and of course the fampus ship yards all of which can be easily reached by tram, train or on foot so maybe a much longer visit will be had next time!

Sweeney Todd. I like the photo with all the house steps. The place looks nice and clean.
Andy Holt The old town area is stunning. You should visit as I think you would like it.
