The start of a quick weekend in Poland meant an early start from Derby to travel via London to reach Stansted Airport for around 0930. The advantage of an early start was however the opportunity to enjoy a full English breakfast on the train served at the seat - fabulous it was too!
Meeting up with Tim and his son Tom at the airport there was just enough time for a 'cheeky one' before heading to the gate for our our fast flight to Poznan.
Our Ryanair flight (FR2336) we as scheduled to depart at 1120, but sadly was delayed by nearly an hour - massively cutting down our time in Poznan for sightseeing much to Tom's annoyance.
Our hotel set in the stunning main square (Stary Rynek) was the Brovaria, which also was a brewery - can't quite think how that happened but is was most welcomed.
After a wander around the town we headed to the citadella area of the city which house a number of old tanks and aircraft - mainly housed in a museum (which was closed). This walk also led us to a little cafe/restaurant called Umberto located in the parkland and what a great place it was for a drink and snack before heading back into the city.
We steered clear of the main square for dinner and dined at a Polish gluten free restaurant called Oberza Pod Dwozonkia. It was fairly quiet but served up some very good food at a decent prices and set us up for a few more drinks in Poznan later.
Our first call on the main square was at Havana Club was full of latin rhythms played by a rather good three piece band - it was a shame they finished at midnight just before the place turned into a dance club . . . . not that I dance of course unless provoked, or am fuelled by a few drinks! The final call of the evening was to Alligator a rock and blues bar also located on the main square in Poznan. Not quite a dancing den but the live music was very good - what a great place to wrap up the evening . . . or early morning.
Next stop is Wroclaw, a two hour journey by train from Poznan where we would be stopping for one night.
