We were so tired after our Fraser island trip but had to get up to check out of the hostel.
We had planned to hire bikes today as not due to leave until this evening on the night bus to Airlie beach, however, the weather was a bit wet so we just thought we'd go for a wonder and grab a coffee at the beach.
We sat on the seafront sipping our coffees and the weather started looking up so we went for a walk along the beach and ended up drawing a picture of the queen in the sand, this became quite a project and ended up spending the next 4 hours in the sunshine creating a jubilee portrait! (see pic) many people stopped to admire our work which included thousands of shells to create a union jack behind 'Our Liz'. During one of our shell hunting walks with the bucket we came across a salt water turtle which was pretty cool and he was very happy to pose for a few pics! When we were talking to a local on the beach he said that it is really unusual to see them here so we were pretty lucky.
I had to sit on Ollie's shoulders to get a good pic before heading off for some fish and chips. While we were sitting on a bench tucking in we met up with Julian, a german guy who had been on the same tour of Fraser island as us, we finished up and dragged him off to the beach to show off our art, got there just in time before the tide took her majesty off to sea!
We all walked up the beach to the jetty to watch the sunset which was awesome, we were hoping to see some dolphins but unfortunately we didnt.
Bumped into another couple from our tour on the beach and had a little chat before heading back to get sorted to head to the bus station.
Sat at the bus station now awaiting our 13hr journey to Airlie, I will not only age due to a probably uncomfortable night on a coach but also because it will be my birthday! When I alight the bus I will be aged 25!
We have just bumped into two german women who were also on our tour and they are getting the same bus as us! The world is incredibly small once you start moving round it!
Over and out
