Could feel the goon we had drunk last night a little when I woke this morning but this was quickly sorted with a cooked breakfast and cup of coffee!
Off the gang headed on the bus to "seventy-five mile beach" an amazing stretch of coast which is in fact 52 miles long.
We got of the bus and climbed up the only rocks on the island to Indian head a remarkable viewpoint with 360 degree views, the greatest moment for me was spotting humpback whales out in the distance, it wasnt a "free-willy" spectacular jump out of the water or any thing but saw the blow out of the ocean which looked like a huge fountain out at sea followed by huge splashes where they were swimming up the the surface.
Back on the beach we saw a few dingoes, dingoes are native to Australia and there are around 300 on Fraser island. For anyone who isn't sure what they are (I wasn't) they are basically wild dogs, over the years on Fraser island dingoes have become more aggressive towards people as a result of being fed, now it is illegal to feed them or leave food available for them and there are signs and posters everywhere warning and promoting dingo safety.
After Indian head we drove to Eli creek, one of the many creeks on the island, with beautiful clear fresh water. The instructions from our guide were to get in, float and let the current take you down to the beach. I loved this so much and we did it a couple of times and finished up in a little pool on the beach for a cup of tea and a biscuit! Awesome!
Further along the 75/52mile beach was a shipwreck (see pic) this was quite a sight and I took about a million pictures including the inside of the wreck which is home to loads of crabs!
Next stop champagne pools, I was initially disappointed when I realised there was no champagne, however this passed when we swam in the huge rockpools next to the crashing waves (which bubble and foam into the pools, hence the name) it's not safe to swim in the sea here due to dangerous rips and sharks, so this was a welcome swim!
At the end of the afternoon our tour guide took up to happy valley (however this was to be a secret as it is the rival resort to the company we were with but he said they had better ice cream!) stopped for a quick ice cream before a seriously crazy drive back to our lodges!
When we got back we were all shattered but had quick showers, getting in a mass game of killer pool
Down at the bar before dinner.
We all sat around chatting about our next destinations and discussing the trip before getting the ferry back.
I'm sat on the ferry now, jut arriving back into Hervey bay and I am SHATTERED!! such an amazing two days that I will never forget!
Will sleep well tonight!
Over and out
