By 9 am today we had a car delivered to our campsite. We got ready and headed out to Badlands National Park. We came into the park from the West entrance and drove through the park loop stopping at the viewpoints.
Kati and Gil climbed some of the formations and we walked a few of the shorter trails. Shila came along when it was safe for her. The weather has been cooler than normal with temperatures in the upper 70s which has been great for sightseeing. It felt warmer in the sun, but there is a really nice breeze. It would be a treat to view this park with the right lighting, but we were tired by the time we reached the end of the park and did not wait for Sunset. There were also low clouds in the horizon.
The Sturgis Biker Rally is taking place and everywhere we go it's full of bikers. Now Gil wants a Harley and Kati is not helping the opposition.
Right outside the East entrance to the park there is a prairie dog park and a shop that sells unsalted peanuts to feed them. With one bag each in hand we set out on our mission. Gil and I managed to get a couple to come take the peanut out of our hand, but most were afraid to get close. We would place the peanut near their hole or toss it to the ones beyond the fence. Kati was another story, she was the prairie dog whisperer. She had at least 6 of them all around her, eating out of her hand and one even let her pet him. This was so much fun we went back for more peanuts and Kati facetimed Nick and Javi to show them.
From the park we drove back to the RV, unloaded the car and got ready to get dinner. We drove to downtown Rapid City. It's a nice downtown with many restaurants some playing live music. There is a plaza offering entertainment, It looked like today was a comedian and it was full of people enjoying the show. After dinner we walked around a bit looking at the President statues. We came across a sign with a map of downtown on one side and a list of events for the year on the other. I was very impressed with their very nicely put together downtown area.
Now I am here in the RV trying to decide what to do tomorrow. The weather will dictate it.
