Today we woke up early and got ready for our ranger walk at the beach. We headed to the beach area and stopped at the service desk in the gift shop to ask details about the snorkeling trip. We were warned that everyone on the boat gets stung by jellyfish and were basically discouraged from doing it. My teens were scared of what they heard and did not want to do it, so we left without booking.
We met the ranger in the parking lot and headed down to the beach for the walk. The walk was partly through the sand and partly in the water. The ranger had "glass" bottom buckets for us to be able to see things in the water. It was awesome, we learn a lot about the beach ecosystem. It was also a private tour since we were the only ones there with the ranger. We spoke with her about the snorkel trip and she advised us not to miss it.
We went back to book the trip and as we got there the people were disembarking the boat from the morning snorkel trip. I asked how many people got stung and they said one. We booked the trip for tomorrow.
We headed back to the RV and had lunch and got ready to go out. We went for a visit to the Turtle hospital. The place is really nice, they do a really good job with the tour, taking you throught the different areas, teaching you about the turtles, explaining what they do, and giving you time to observe on your own and even feed the turtles. I highly recommend this place. We had a great time there. Pictures attached to the blog.
On our way to the RV, at the end of Marathon key, we spotted a Cuban Cafe "La Niña"- time for Batido de Mamey (Mamey shake) and empanadas. They were great and the food there looks very yummy. We will have to be back
Later that afternoon we came back and went swimming and fishing. We had a fun filled day and are looking forward to tomorrow.
