One of my favorite activities when I camp near the beach is to take long walks early morning along the shore. This time I have not had the opportunity since we have had activities scheduled early in the morning the past three days.
Today is the perfect day for me to do that - while everyone was still in their slumber I headed out to the beach for a walk. Oh how soothing it is to my soul. Today is also Sabbath and I looked up churches in the area. There is a Seventh-day Adventist Church in Key West that has afternoon services. The plan today will be to maybe ride some kayaks, attend church service and stroll the streets of Key West looking for the statutes.
After breakfast we headed out to the beach to check out the kayaks, but the wakes were high, there was a storm approaching the area. I checked the weather and the skies were clear in Key West, so we headed out early.
We kayaked at Smather's Beach - same beach we had gone parasailing three years ago. We found a public bathroom to change out of our bathing suits and then headed to have lunch/dinner at a Cuban restaurant "el Siboney" - it had good ratings but did not turn out so great.
Bistec de palomilla - apparently Cuban restaurants have forgotten what this is. Hubby got a hard steak cooked in a grill with onions thrown on top. Tostones were more like a bad version of mariquitas. Congri or Black beans we could not order - now they are cooked with pork! If a Cuban needs to add pork to either of those dishes for it to have taste - they do not know how to cook. La niña - the little cafeteria we discovered in Marathon Key - they still cook things the way they are supposed to be.
We went to Church for the afternoon service and then headed towards Malory square. I knew the Key West Art and History Museum was near, and I wanted to check out the statues that are at the museum and throughout Key West. I had researched before going there, hoping to find some sort of list and locations of all of them, but I did not find any helpful information. I was hoping to get that information from the museum, but it was closed. Instead we took a few pictures there and called it a night. No one was interested in going on the hunt with me.
Much to my disappointment - two days of pictures are missing from our files, so I do not have any pictures of yeterday or today. The picture on the blog is from the internet, just to show where we were.
Tomorrow we break down camp and start heading home.
