We left Coral Bay early and drove the 94 miles up the coast to Exmouth, a relatively short drive for us now! On the way up we say loads of termite mounds along by the road. Once we got to Exmouth we found a campsite, got another deal (4 nights for the price of 3), and booked to go diving on the Navy Pier, which is one of the top 10 pier dives in the world apparently! We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the campsite pool eating ice cream, which wasn't a bad way to spend the day really. The next day we were looking forward to doing our 2 dives, but unfortunately the wind had really picked up so the dives were postponed for a day. We decided to go into the Cape Range National Park instead, which is just outside of Exmouth, and we went down to Turquoise Bay to do a drift snorkel, which is where you let the current just carry you along, nice and easy. It was really good, we did it 3 times and saw loads of coral, fish, and even a white tip reef shark which swam really close to us! They aren't very big, and aren't dangerous to humans, so it was great to get to swim so close to one. The next day we were looking forward to going diving, but unfortunately it was postponed again due to bad weather! SO instead we spent the day exploring the area. First we went up to the North Cape, right at the top of the peninsula, and had a look at the wreck of the SS Mildura, which you can see from the shore. Then we headed up to the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, which had really great views over the area as it's so high up. We also visited the Jurabi Turtle Centre to learn a bit more about the turtles that nest along the coast. We then spent the afternoon snorkelling, first at Lakeside which was quite interesting, but very shallow and a bit murky, we did see some big fish though. Next we went back to Turquoise Bay, and we're so glad we did as the water was a lot calmer than the day before, the visibility was great, we saw loads of fish and some more sharks and we even got to swim with a green turtle! We swam with it for a little which, only a couple of metres from it, then we let it swim off to relax. In the evening we ate at the tavern across the road, which had great food but had a weird country singer American diner theme. The next day was our last day in Exmouth and finally the weather had imnproved, so we got to dive on the Navy Pier! The Pier is actually part of a working naval base, so we had to show our idea to some Australian federal police before we were allowed in. The dive was really amazing, we saw huge schools of fish, a massive grooper, eels, starfish, lionfish and loads more sharks (again small ones so that was fine). We were really glad we got to do it, as that was our main reason for coming to Exmouth. Unfortunately the dive shop wasn't offering any dives on the outer reef, so we decided to head back to Coral Bay the next day to do the Manta Ray interaction tour which we had seen advertised when we were there.
