We drove up the coast to Mandurah and as it was really hot we decided to go to the shopping centre for lunch - unfortunately we got a bit lost on the way, but we finally got there and enjoyed the air conditioning. Luckily our campsite had a swimming pool, so we spent the afternoon relaxing in the shade. The next day we went into the town centre and walked along the foreshore, then went to see the war memorial. We also saw 2 dolphins swimming in the estuary! Next we walked back along the foreshore and visited the Mandurah Boardwalk, before going to Dolphin Quay to look at the markets and get something to eat. In the afternoon we did the Venetian Canals walk, which showed off some very posh houses with their own jetties, but it wasn't quite like the real Venice. In the evening we went on a cruise around the canals to see the Christmas lights - we went past loads of $1-2 million houses which had some amazing displays, it made us both feel really christmassy! The next day we went up to Secret Harbour to go to the beach, hoping to go surfing, unfortunately it was super windy and really cold so we decided against it. We drove down to Lake Clifton instead to see some thrombolites (ancient living rocks), and then ate lunch at Miami Bake House, which is an award winning WA bakery - very yummy! For our final day we went into the town centre again to visit the Mandjar Markets along the seafront, as well as the Farmers Market on the Boardwalk - there were loads of cool things, but we didn't buy anything as we would end up with no space in our backpacks! We had a little walk along the Eastern Foreshore before going to the shopping centre for coffee and cake, and then spent the afternoon by the pool again enjoying the sun.
