We've spent the last couple of days in Carnarvon, about halfway between Karratha and Perth. It was a long 395 miles to get here, after a not so great nights sleep in Karratha (being woken up by birds in the trees at 4am isn't the best), so we just relaxed around the campsite for our first afternoon. The next day we explored the town, starting with the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum. This explained all about how the town was involved with helping NASA with the Apollo moon landings in the 1960s, which is sort of a crazy thought when you realise that this is a tiny town in the Outback halfway up the West Coast of Australia - not somewhere we'd ever heard of before driving past! After this we went to the Gwoonwardu Mia Gascoyne Aboriginal and Cultural Centre, which had a really interesting gallery exhibition explaining all about the different aboriginal cultures in the area, their stories for the history of Carnarvon, and how they were treated by white settlers over the last century or so (pretty badly). In the afternoon we headed out to the coast and walked along One Mile Jetty, which is one of the longest jetties in the Southern Hemisphere - it's also over 100 years old and made entirely of wood, so some of the planks were a little bit wobbly as walked along, but we made it to the end and back in one piece!
