There's a funny episode of How I Met Your Mother where Marshall claims to have had the best burger in the whole world after his gang of friends has the new burger at their local bar, but he cannot remember where he had it. So they take off on a whirl-wind adventure around NYC to find said burger (the episode features Regis Philbin in a very random role). Anyway, this got me thinking about my search for the best burger.
Since I've been in Hartford, I managed to check two local hot spots off my list. One being Louie's Lunch in New Haven last month, which is home of the original burger (at $11 for a tiny burger w/ tomato, cheese and onions with potato salad), and this evening in the form of a steamed cheeseburger from Ted's Restaurant.
What originally started out with a group of adjusters ready to venture out and indulge in one of Connecticut's finest eateries which was featured on Travel Channel's Man vs. Food instead wound up being just me and my friend Jackie. This place is home of the world famous Steamed Cheeseburger and to be honest...it didn't quite live up to expectations. The bar was set pretty high and although it was a tasty burger, I must say that the best burgers I've ever had is a tie between two places in Buffalo.
Coles has always been a favorite of mine on Elmwood Ave. I've had every burger on the menu (it features about 9 or 10) and on half of them, you can opt for Kobe. However, I believe that Buffalo's little secret is in the form of the monster burger from Vizzy's. $5 for literally a monster-sized burger and a bucket-load of fresh-cut fries. This requires no ketchup and it just melts in your mouth. Both places have been huge hits when it came to bringing friends from out of the area there.
My search is never-ending but for now, it seems that Buffalo takes the title for now.
