It's been about a week since my last entry, feel like a bit of a slacker. I am now back home in Rochester, enjoying a nice 3-day break since I worked two straight weeks. The two weeks in Hartford was very boring for the most part and was highlighted on Friday of last week by sitting with my manager and discussing my end of the year development plan. The meeting was a solid two hours and I really took a lot of great advice from it. The one thing that stuck out for me in was when he said that I needed to develop a niche, a skill or reputation in which singles me out from the rest of the pack. I feel that my customer service skills are what separates me but in the eyes of a major company, that can sometimes go unseen. These are words in which my grandfather had uttered almost every time I saw him. Basically, a key to success in the business world is to master or invent something that most people don't know how to do or need, respectfully. It will make you not only a valuable asset but it will could also make you quite successful. The meeting also helped me rediscover that I'm in this job to promote myself. Being on the road by my lonesome makes me forget that I'm actually building a career. This year, I vow to sell myself more and give my free time helping myself get better as well as making others better around me.
I've been home since Sunday night and it's taken me three days to finally get around to being productive. Made a large batch of chicken and vegetable soup today, ran some errands and cleaned. Skiing is on the agenda for tomorrow at Bristol Mountain with Brookes and Theresa, which ought to be a gas since the three of us have skiied about as many times as Brookes has NOT uttered the phrase this week "We're going to the Super Bowl", when referencing his beloved Green Bay Packers.
