Today starts our week of training in Hartford. There are a lot of benefits to taking all these training classes. First off, in order to maintain a license in the state of Texas (which is considered my home state since NY does not offer a license), I need to accrue a certain amount of Continuing Education credits each year. Since I am taking all these classes in a week's time, I believe that this will fulfill my quota for the year. Another benefit is that these classes will actually teach me something about my job haha! However, I do not look forward to the classes which try to make the employee appreciate people's differences. I understand the need for such courses in the corporate world but not when the same one is being taught 2-3 times a year. It's a little overkill.
Had my first such class where we spent half the day discussing the customer experience. This is a field I feel I am well versed in but I picked up a couple tips along the way, like how to take charge of the claim once the inspection is completed and how to explain the claim process with an insured. The second half of the day consisted of office pranks and a couple conversations with some insureds which resulted in claim closures.
Tomorrow starts three days of Earthquake training. There is another snow/ice storm which is expected to hit overnight but we've been told that training will be held in the Hyatt lobby if the office is closed.
