Started the day with coffee in bed...I could get used to this! Then I made pancakes (gluten free) with banana, strawberries and kiwi and maple syrup - was surprisingly delicious even though I used gluten free flour.
We packed up and left the Mount Gambier Showgrounds (filling up our water tanks, which were empty after 3 days in one spot), emptied the toilet (sorry if this is too much info!) and said our goodbyes to some of the people we have met.
We headed towards the coast, stopping first at Lake McIntyre in Millicent, which is a bird haven and beautiful conservation park. We then visited the tiny but pretty coastal town of Southend, where we drove along the Bluff to see amazing sand dunes, limestone cliffs and long stretches of white sand. Next we drove to the larger seaside town of Beachport, known for its long jetty (second longest in SA at 772 metres), crayfish fishing fleet and was originally set up as a whaling station in the 1830s. We followed the fabulous Bowman Scenic Drive along the coast which took us to the Pool of Siloam, a salt lake that is apparently seven times saltier than the sea, and along the cliff edge with fabulous views across the limestone rocks out to sea.
The next town was Robe, which is also a small fishing town that is quite touristy. Here we also stopped at the beach and the marina before driving along the wild and windy coast.
The biggest issue today was the incessant wind that never let up. It howled all day and despite the mild 22 degree day, we needed to wear coats at each stop, and even then I felt I was in danger of being swept off the cliff with each wind gust.
We have pulled up for the night at Wright's Bay Bush Camping, just after Robe, which is a private farm situated right on the beach that is open to camping. The washing is strung out to dry, we've had a chat to some of our neighbours, a quick walk on the beach just on sunset, a bbq dinner (love our baby weber q) and a few glasses of wine - well I had a few glasses of wine all on my own. Feeling sleepy and ready to crash for the night. Sweet dreams all x
