Happy birthday to you!
Today is Gadi's birthday (which is why I baked a chocolate cake last night). What a beautiful morning we woke up to at Second Creek, Tumby Bay this morning. It was wind still and the inlet was stunning with sand bars stretching out for miles, pelicans waddling nearby and many other birds flying overhead.
Gadi went out in the kayak and Cadbury and I watched from the shore for a while and then walked along the shoreline before heading back to the van to make a special birthday breakfast - berry pancakes topped with kiwi, strawberries and maple syrup (yum!). We ate outside in the sun, feeling how lucky we were to have spent the night in this gorgeous, peaceful and quiet place.
Birthday celebrations continued with cake and then we slowly packed up to head towards Port Lincoln.
We didn't get very far as we decided to explore the nearby town of Louth Bay, only half an hour away, where we found a great little low cost camping ground situated on a lovely beach that would make a great base for the next few days.
After setting up we headed into Port Lincoln, only 20km away. This is a big town with a lot of facilities and has a good feel about it. After a stop at the Visitor's Centre, I got a bit grumpy as we hadn't had lunch and it was already after 4pm, so on recommendation we ate delicious fish and squid wraps and chips at the Fresh Fish Factory. Feeling rather full, we explored some of the local coastline, the marina with its huge boats tied up in berths and then drove up to a hill top viewpoint to watch the sunset from the top.
A bit of excitement as Gadi went off to explore a tower and building with a door. He wondered if he could climb up so tried the door knob. The door opened but he could see it wasn't meant for the public so he quickly shut the door. Within 30 seconds a loud alarm sounded, ringing out across the hill top and surrounding valley. Nobody came to check on it, but it provided a bit of entertainment while we were there.
Back to our caravan for the evening to enjoy a night in (yep this is becoming a habit!) and for Gadi to watch his favourite Monday night ABC TV lineup. Today has been a lovely day, and I think Gadi had a great birthday despite not going to any special restaurant. Sometimes the best moments are simple and spontaneous.
From the far south of the Ayre Peninsula, it's time to say good night xx
