Antoinette Hildebrandt's Travels
We were expecting another sunny day so we decided to do the Thames river tour to Greenwich. Because it left from Westminster we did the Abbey first. As you come out of the tube station you can see Big Ben right across the street and the obligatory photos were taken. (Lisette has brought King Julian with her and he is in the selfies she takes in front of important landmarks.) We tour the Abbey - I had forgotten how spectacular it is with the stain glass windows and vaulted ceilings. Unfortunately it is also home to a lot of dead people. I am so glad I don't have to attend worship services accompanied by the dearly departed. Was perplexed as to why Charles Darwin can be found there though) Down to the Thames and we get on the boat. It's a bit chilly out on deck but it's a much better view. Somewhere after the Tower Bridge we decide we are too cold and head below to warm up before we get to Greenwich. We visit the Cutty Sark which has been restored. The consensus is that this boat is better than the one yesterday. Then head over to the British Maritime Museum. They have lots of interesting displays- the one for Admiral Nelson was excellent. They even had the clothes that he was wearing when he was mortally wounded, on display. Finally we walk through Greenwich Park (which is beautiful) and up the hill to the Royal Observatory. We take our photos on the line of Meridian where Canberra is marked and then look around the rest of the building. Time to head home so back on the boat- this time inside! We are all in bed again by 7:30/8:00 but I've woken up at 1:30am which is when I am writing this.
