Antoinette Hildebrandt's Travels
It takes around 45 minutes to collect our luggage (which all arrived) and make our way through customs. We are all a bit narky with each other by now - its been 36 hours and we haven't had a whole lot of sleep. We get on the tube to travel into the city to the hotel we've arranged to drop our bags. They will deliver them to our apartment. There is a heavy police presence at the major stations including special ops guys with machine guns and mounted police. Once we have rid ourselves of the bags it's time to start sight seeing. We had planned to watch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace but due to the delays we had we are now too late. We will save that for another day. I had thought about plan B but never made it so we decide to go to the British Museum. After an hour we've concluded that we are much too tired to do anything. We all still feel like we're on the plane....the ground is moving! It's lunchtime so we find this nice little fish and chip shop. I swear the best we've ever had! It makes all the difference! We head off walking to Covent a Gardens and Piccadilly Circus. Wander down to Buckingham Palace, through St James park and spend £1 for us to use the toilets. 20p each to pee! Australians take for granted their reasonably clean free public toilets. (They weren't any cleaner or nicer than ours) Time to head off to our apartment- a 3 minute walk from the Arsenal tube station. We are looking forward to a nice hot shower and bed but Isaac uses all the hot water and I'm to tired to wait the 30 minutes for it to heat up again. ( to be fair we think there wasn't any to begin with) It's 7pm and I've decided to go to bed. I wake up at 12:30 which is when I am writing this. I'll be awake for a while I expect.
