Otovalo!
Saturday we woke up at 5 am to catch a bus for Otovalo! Basically in Otovalo there is a hugeeee market. It was awesome. Quite the adventure as well. So Humberto picked me up at around 5:45 to go in taxi together to the bus station because well it was still dark. So we were in the taxi when all of a sudden the taxi driver was like ¨estoy calientando¨and he stopped the taxi. Im thinking ummm ok please dont throw up... but then he gets out of the car and lifts up the hood and a big cloud of smoke flies out. I was like OHHH EL TAXI ESTÁ CALIENTANDO! hahah Humberto and I were cracking up but I felt soo bad for the taxi driver cuz he was just stuck there with his burning taxi... so we got out and flagged down another taxi who then took us to the wrong bus station. He took us to the north station when the rest of the girls were at the south station. So we called them and told them just to grab a bus and we would meet them in Otovalo. Since we were at the North Station we had to take a regular 25 cent bus to the stop where the Otovalo bus would pick us up. While waiting for the bus we saw a giant gutted pig hanging outside of a restuarante place. Hahahah it was awesome. So the bus came and we hopped on! Luckly we had seats :) So the almost 2 hour bus ride brought us through the mountains of Ecuador, past small neighborhoods and lots of trees. We finally arrived in Otovalo and waited for the rest of the girls. The market was awesome. It was huge! There were a lot of artisians but a fruit market and animal market as well. I wanted to try holding a chicken by its legs but the one lady we asked wanted five bucks for it... pssht no. So we walked around the market for a while. I bought an outfit that the indigenous women wear. Its awesome. The lady wanted me to try it on so I was wearing it for a while! hahaha they loved it cuz I dont think they have ever seen a white person wearing one before. I had my hair wrapped in the belt they use to keep their hair back.. Its so great.. I deff want to get pictures of that up.
On Sunday it was my abuelita´s birthday. She is called MIMI :) So a bunch of random family came over and we had apps and dinner. After dinner the adults stayed in the dinning room and talked politics and the kids when in my sisters room and talked about ghosts, reincarnation, movies, ect...oh and my cousin and I talked about my life for about an hour ahah she was very interested. But it was great! I love talking in Spanish for long periods of time! And I am happy that my brother and my sisters are talking to me now too!
This weekend we planned on going to Mindo but apparently the highway is closed off due to a landslide or something. So now I think we are taking the Devils Nose train or something like that up some mountain. I dont really know.
Ok welll chauuus
