I have my service project!!!!
So I had an interview today with a guy named Diego to volunteer at a place called Mi Caleta. This literally translates to My Cove. It is an organization for children and adolesents who come from the streets. They come here in the afternoons after working all day or some get to go to school. I will be helping educate the children, forming values all sorts of stuff. I am really excited to work with these kids because they literally have nothing... (now I know what to do with all my extra clothes!) But also because I am so sick of the modern city and the snobby school in which I attend. It will deffinatly be shocking to go to this part of town but I am really excited.
Eww it just started to thunder and lighting!! It always rains here in the evenings!!! I don´t like the rain but it really is soo much better than the crap snow you guys have and it´s usually very warm during the day. I think yesterday was the hottest day since I have been here.
I don´t know if I mentioned it yet or not but I joined the salsa club at school. Its usually on wednesdays and fridays but I will be doing my service work on Wednesdays so I can only go on fridays. Oh and I found out today that the class for Service Learning will take place at IES not at the Uni which is good considering Ill be in La Marin until 5ish and have to make it there by 6 for class. Then class gets out at 8 and I live close to IES but probably a half hour away from school by taxi. Because at that time I wouldnt take the bus and that far in a taxi is too much money. I am running out send me some. IES is about 4 streets away. I can´t really go by blocks because I cut through a parking lot. I will still probably take a taxi unless Humberto wanted to walk me home everytime but I don´t know if he is doing Service Learning. Plus I wouldn´t make him do that! haha. But a taxi from there would probably only cost like a dollar. So whatever.
So for my Anthro class we had to pick a hecho cultural or a space or something and observe it then write up this thing about it... like you know a sciency thing. It was due on Monday and the teacher picked about 5 or 6 people to present their topic and she totally picked me. I was like UGHhh but secretly so EXCITED hhahaah. I really wanted to present and I think she saw me not raising my hand to volunteer but I give her this look whenever I want to answer something in class but I am not totally sure if I am right so I don´t wanna raise my hand so then she just calls me, so I was giving her that look when she was asking who wanted to start. Hahaha so yea I was pumped. and I actually think I did a good job. She really liked my topic and i didn´t make any mistakes while speaking! I am sooo smahht.
I want a quesadilla and fried egg. My fav. I am so excited my host mom finally offered me a fried egg with like whatever meal I want. This is something I´ve been craving since Argentina. haha. They just don´t do that in U.S. I suppose I could make my own dinners with fried eggs but I am really not the best cook in the world... that´s why I can´t wait for Jacquie and I to get an apartment... we have the best plan in the world for food. Plus one of my best friends, Mario :), is a cook at Uno´s so we will totally invite him over to make pizza pizza all the time. woohoo.. but our other plan is like genious. I can´t wait.
For homework tonight I am supposed to write a critical summary about the wearing away of classic norms but I dunno what to write haha. I wish it was a different chapter because this one is just a little confusing cuz I feel like it never really comes to a point. The author describes culture like a museum compared to a garage sale thats like how it was and how we are now but that is in the way end of the chapter and the whole beginning is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo about his kid going to pre-school. I dunnoooo.
Well I don´t know well else to say sooooooooooo bye bye
