Hi all,
September seems to have been a very quiet month in comparison with August.
The two volunteers left a couple of days ago so it's back to being the long term residents of DGFC, plus a crazy french guy, Alex, who is a forestry engineer student. With the volunteers gone there's a lot more to do around here and helping out with the others' projects. I went out to help Josie and Becky with their mammal trapping and they caught a moonrat! Weird, massive and white nocturnal rat things, google them! I have also helped Danica carry out her habitat analysis for her proboscis monkey phd. It's not the most exciting thing, it just involves measuring a lot of trees and vines, think I may have mentioned it before. Went out yesterday and it rained so so much while we were out, but being so dedicated to the trees we stayed out and carried on. Yay for waterproof paper... It was fun though and in the afternoon myself, Danica and her friend Diana who is visiting from Canada, watched a film with a luke warm cup of tea (power was off) after a nice cold shower. Krik the slow loris after taking nearly two weeks to complete a whole night of data collection due to the rain has been a little more successful this week with it taking 5 nights instead of 4. However we saw him once when he was 2m from the ground and this morning at 4am I saw a flicker of his eye shine for a whole 2 seconds about 20m high and that was it. I think I'm getting some new collars in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I can go out with Anto and try and catch some more!
Not much other news to report on. We never did our climbing training in September as Becky was on her visa run but I think it's now been scheduled for 17th October. Josie and I are also off to Singapore on the 19th for our first visa run. So excited to spend some time in civilization and have a drink which isn't water and a hot shower! We have also just sent off Jungle Times, our newsletter we have to write for the centre so once my boss has sent it out I will forward it on to those interested!
