So the last couple of days have been quite quiet. Josie, Becky and me have had the task of trying to join two of the deadend trails together. This involves the three of us going out with machetes and the GPS and basically chopping down vegetation and guessing which way to go. (Dad that compass probably would have been useful...) Our moto is to just follow the river, hard work but fun.
That was our morning, this afternoon we just chilled out in the main building. There had been rumours recently that Benoit (boss) was bringing the BBC here to get footage of the herd of elephants which the field centre had managed to collar, but had decided against it as the National geographic team (left the day I arrived) had had such trouble trying to find them, including their boat sinking in a crocodile invested river. But today we heard that the elephants weren't too far away so Ben was going to bring the BBC here after all! Anyway this was all very excited, but it got better. Sat outside reading, Catrin, one of the german students ran out and told us the elephants were here! A herd of elephants were just next to our building wandering through our garden some even using the path. It was amazing! Apparently they hadn't been in this area for almost a year I think, so we were so lucky to have them on our doorstep. They hung around for a while and we could hear them in the distance pulling down trees. We walked further up the path to try and get another look and can't have been too far away, 20 metres or so? We got a bit scared though as they were making loud rumbling noises, but they moved off into the forest! Hopefully will be able to go out and see them again! Tobago report has been put on hold once more, it's just too distracting here. Sat in the office earlier, looked out of the window and there was an orangutan just moving through the trees...
Not a bad place to be!
Lots of love
