Alistair the BBC cameraman has come back to DG for a week to try and get some more footage of the elephants. As if we didn't all love him enough, he brought us all a lot of Dairy Milk. Just what 6 girls in the forest want! I was going to be all grumpy when I wrote this post as three of the girls have gone off to film with him today, but because I'm actually doing some work and am the only one out of the three PTYs to have started their projects I couldn't go. The slow loris needs me. But I am now a lot happier as Josie has just rang me and since leaving DG at 7am this morning and it is now nearly 2pm they haven't seen a single elephant. Too bad.
Not much else is happening here. A new girl from Cardiff has come to volunteer for a month so I now have her helping me out which is good. Apparently another volunteer is coming from America today along with an Australian called Graham. He has been here before and has done a lot of research here, but apparently he's very scary. Becky and Josie both have him as their kind of project leader, so again, lucky escape for me!
The only other news I can think of is that for the past couple of days we have had a dead proboscis monkey in our freezer. Yesterday there was a little argument about the fact the chicken needed to go in, but the monkey couldn't come out... Never thought I'd hear that one. We didn't kill it though. When we were out on the boat, Samsir spotted it hanging upside down in a tree. It was an adult female and Danica who is researching them was interested about how it died, so the next day it was a mission for the staff here to get it down! A lot of climbing gear was involved! We were going to take it to the vet, but couldn't until today, hence why it is in our freezer! The other dodgy thing about it being in there is the fact that everything is powered by a generator which is only on from 11-2pm and 5-11pm... Luckily today it was taken to Sepilok to have a post mortem!
So all quiet-ish at Danau Girang, I was about to go out and find the slow loris sleeping site, but it looks like it has just started raining.... Hello wet season.
