I know I am already a couple weeks into this adventure, but I want to tell you all about the great people I am meeting. As some of you know, I am staying in a 17 bedroom house! Most of my roommates are also VACorps interns and most are from the United States. There is still so much diversity amongst us however. It's kind of funny actually, there are five University of Oregon students staying in my house and none of us knew each other before this experience! Katie got here about 2 weeks before Jordan, Chelsea, and I. Katie and I actually had a class together spring term, but didn't realize until we started talking! The other Oregon student got here a couple days ago. Her name is Hannah. She seems really nice and I am excited to get to know her! Along with the west coast, there are people from the mid-west, east coast, and the south. Literally, there are people from all over!
Interns come at different times. It seems that every couple weeks more people leave, which means new interns will be arriving. There was a pretty big group of us that arrived at the same time, but we are all spread out in the many different VACorps houses. Kelsey got here the day after we did. She is from Washington and just graduated with her masters and is staying in the same house as me. From my house, I usually hang out with Chelsea, Katie, and Kelsey the most. We all got here around the same time and all usually want to do the same things. Also, Katie and Chelsea love the bachelorette (despite how ridiculous it is), so we all watch that together! Overall, I think there are like 70ish VACorps interns here right now. On weekends, the majority of us usually go out to the same clubs and bars. It's always a lot of fun and even though I am two weeks in, I am still coming across interns that I have not met yet!
Everyone in the house is great though! It's kind of sad the way VACorps rotates interns out. I can see how hard it will be to get to know someone really well, and then they leave! Oh well though, that is all part of this experience. I am looking forward to meeting all the new people that will be arriving within the next two months!
*And on a side note, there is another Amelia in the house! This is the first time that I have ever been around someone for a long period of time that shares my name. She is great though, so I don't mind!
