On Sunday we learned how to ride some of the public transportation in the City. While riding the Golden Arrow city bus, I met a woman named Linda. She was on her way home from work. She works at a jean factory in Cape Town. At first I was hesitant to talk to her. I wasn't sure how she would respond or if she would even be interested in talking with me since it was obvious that I am American. I finally decided to ask her how she was doing and that's when we began our great conversation. She asked me a lot of questions such as why I am in Cape Town, where I am from, and what I am studying. Along with this she was very curious about my family. I asked her about her family as well. She has daughters who are about to graduate from the University here. As she spoke about them, I could here in her voice how proud she was. She then went on to tell me not to settle down until I finish school and reach all my professional goals. My conversation with Linda showed me how warm and inviting people can be. She gave me her phone number and invited me and my friends to come visit her at work one day to learn how jeans are made and I fully intend to do so!
