This morning was tough. Hangover central. In any case I was out in the lobby by 10 and happened to run in to Bianca, who will be my room mate for the tour. She was about to head to miraflores as I was so we jumped in a cab together and made the trip. We spent the morning walking along the boardwalk (I wanted to go paragliding but it was too foggy :( ) and checking out the parks. We stopped for lunch at a local cafe, where I ordered ceverche (no idea on the spelling). So ceverche is the national dish, and is basically fresh raw fish in a lime, chilli and coriander marinade, served with corn and sweet potato (see cover pic). Matt, you would love love love this dish. Definitely gives Japanese a run for its money. We then raced back downtown to the hotel to meet up with the rest of the group and our guide, Raoul. There are 12 on our tour all together ...all Aussies. Except Raoul. We had a brief overview of the trip and then headed to downtown Lima for a tour, the highlight of which was the catacombs. A catacomb, for anyone like me who had no idea, is pretty much a crypt. After seeing all of them, I concluded that Catholics are a creepy, morbid bunch of people. I'd hate to think that in 1000 years my dusty old bones are couped up on display. What a depressing thought! Went to dinner with some of the group before doing a bit of night shopping and heading home for an early night. Up at 2.30am tomorrow to fly out to the amazon.
