I got an hour if sleep last night. One hour. I think it's still the jetlag but I just can't sleep!! Got a wake up call at 2:30am anyhow, so packed out stuff and headed out to the airport for our flight to peurto maldenardo, gateway to the amazon. I slept a bit on the plane. We had an hour flight followed by another 20 minute flight. It was pouring when we got in and so we rushed all of the luggage onto the bus and headed to the office of our rainforest tour guides. We were still waiting on 4 more ppl to come on a later flight so we headed off to the local snake refuge where we got up close and personal with several boas including a couple of small anaconda. Our guide was telling us that the largest anaconda he has seen in the wide was about 8m. Yikes. After the reptile tour we got on another bus and drove 45mins to the river, we the got on a long skinny motarised canoe, Rambo style, and headed down the amazon for another 40 mins. Finally got out and did a few mins of walking and got to our jungle lodge. It is beautiful. Our rooms (see cover pic) are all wooden and are basically a roof supported by posts. Our beds are under mosquito nets and if I wasn't sharing with another girl I am sure I would think it was all very romantic. We had a brief into from the guides before heading off for a nature walk which ended by climbing a 40m tower to look over the amazon canopy. I wish you could have all seen the view. It was spectacular. We saw macaws and even a howler monkey... Albeit from a distance. Came back for dinner which was delicious soup and lasagna. I am now so tired that I can barely keep my eyes open while I type this. Can't believe it!! This is the one night I want to stay awake and soak in every noise. I AM SLEEPING IN THE AMAZON!!!
