Got up early to drive out to out starting point for the trail. We met up with our porters... Who outnumber our group (and each of them carries 25 kilos of stuff) and they loaded up and started sprinting off into the distance. We had to show our passports before starting because apparently there has been some pretty violent crimes on the path before so the have started tracking exactly who comes in. The first day was pretty easy as we walked along fairly flat ground most of the way. I have to say though, I reckon most of what the porters carry is food, because the meals are spectacular. Lunch was an amazing tomato soup followed by stuffed avocados, corn and cheese and meatballs. Overall I think we walked about 7 hours before arriving at our campsite where we set up our sleeping bags, had dinner and some pisco and flopped into bed to rest up for day 2 which is supposed to be torture. Woke up during the night to the sound of torrential rain. Not a good sign.
