After leaving cuzco we drove to Ollyantambo, which was only about 45 mins but on the way we stopped at a couple of local houses to see their livelihoods. The first house we stopped at was a chocolate house. The girl there showed us how to get a cocoa bean, roast it, grind it up with raw sugar, melt it down and reset it in a brick shape and voila... Chocolate!! It is a far cry from Cadbury but it is still amazing!! Took a block for the road and went next door to a house where and older lady showed us how to make cheche. Cheche is made simply by fermenting corn... So doubt there is a low carb version ha. About 12 kilos if corn are required to make a vat of the stuff and the lady sold 1L mugs for 1 sole. That's like 30 cents. Tough going. After trying some (disgusting... Deft an acquired taste) we played the frog game where you have to toss gold coins into a series of holes in a board about 3m away. We all put in 1 sole .. Winner takes all. I won ( pretended I played all the time at home) and gave the winnings to our host. After all that, we continued on and after getting to our hotel, began preparing for the inca trek. Ollyantambo is a gorgeous town but really touristy. Katia went to buy a beanie until she found out the prices tag was 180 soles!!
